We have approximately 17,000 items in our collection, including over 600 DVDs and 20 magazines. Your library card entitles you to borrow library materials, use the computers, read the newspapers and magazines, access the reference materials and request interlibrary loans.
There are three computers available for public use, featuring high speed Internet access and a suite of office software. We also have a fax machine and copier available for public use.
The library has extensive fiction and non-fiction collections, including a range of large print, audio, and video titles and a freely circulating collection of over 1,000 paperbacks, and can generally obtain anything that it doesn't own through interlibrary loan within a week or two.
We also have a large set of reference resources and material on the history of Brownsville, the surrounding area, and Pennsylvania in general.
The library is also a source for information on: Parenting, Community Action, Social organizations, tax forms, and financial aid information for college.
BFPL has high speed internet and free wifi access. Patrons can “check out” a computer using their library card at the Circulation Desk. Visitors may also use the computer after signing in on our Visitor’s Log. There is a 30 minute time limit on the computers when patrons are waiting. Prints are 25¢ per page for black and white and $1.00 per page for color.
BFPL staff will gladly make copies for patrons at a cost of 25¢ per page for black and white copies and $1.00 per page for color copying. Double-sided copying counts as 2 pages. Fees are due at the time copies are made.
Library staff may fax documents for patrons at a cost of $1.00 per page, including cover page. If a patron needs to have an item faxed to the library, they must be present at the time the fax is received. Fees for faxing are due at time of service.
With a valid library card number, patrons can log into Overdrive's website and download eBooks and audiobooks to their computer, mobile device, iPod, or eBook reader. Patrons can use the above web address or reach Overdrive through a link on our website. BFPL also has help documents on getting started with Overdrive at the library.
Gale Courses offers patrons free access to hundreds of instructor-led online courses covering everything from health and wellness to creative writing, computer programming, GED test preparation and much more. The courses are developed by expert instructors, many currently working at universities around the country, and have continuous enrollment dates. Access GALE Courses through a link on our website.
