Adult Fiction includes popular authors such as James Patterson, Danielle Steel, Stephen King, Sandra Brown, and many more. You can also find new titles in the RENTAL books. Popular genres, including Mysteries, Science Fiction and Horror, Westerns, and Christian fiction, can also be found in this section.
Adult Non-Fiction books are information on science and technology, health, diet and cooking, art and crafts, home repair and home decorating, as well as classic fiction, poetry, and biography.
Our Young Adult Fiction has a range of genres including fantasy, romance, and dystopian. It has popular authors such as Alice Oseman, Sarah J mass and Ridley Pearson. Series including a House of Night, Mortal Instruments and Maximum Ride. If Young adults are anxious to ask for help we have a section dedicated to books with difficult to discuss topics like Drug use, Teen Pregnancy, Mental health, Sexuality and Racial issues. This section is always growing.
Our nonfiction books are informative on subjects such as biographies, school subjects and future careers, and more. It includes classic books like The Catcher in the Rye, and Anne Frank.
Juvenile Fiction, for ages 6 through 12, include both picture and chapter books. You will find in this category Harry Potter, R. L. Stine’s Fear Street and Goosebumps series and longtime favorites such as L. M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables series.
Juvenile Non-Fiction also includes Picture books and much of the same categories as adult non-fiction, but age-appropriate.
Our graphic novel section has popular movies/shows turned books like Nimona, and The Last Kids on Earth. As well as fan favorite series such as Dog Man, Narwhal and Jelly, Heartstopper, and Locke and Key. It also carries different manga's, such as DeathNote and Attack on Titan. Our nonfiction graphic novels include topics such as history and science.
Local History Collection includes Brownsville history (see our bibliography of materials). We also have most of the High School Yearbooks 1922 through 2006.
Our service area includes: the boroughs of Brownsville or Newell and the townships of Brownsville, Franklin, Jefferson, and Luzerne. Residents of these towns may receive a free library card with proof of address and a state identification, such as a driver’s license. The Library, as part of the Fayette County Library System will also provide free service to all residents of Fayette County and, through Access PA, to all Pennsylvanians holding valid cards from their own libraries.
Please return your materials by their due date to allow other patrons to check out these materials. Materials that are more than 30 days overdue will may be prosecuted under Pennsylvania Code, Title 18, Chapter 67, §6708, “Retention of Library Property.”
Unpaid fines may go to a Collection Agency.
Patrons, please be aware that if you allow others to use your library card, YOU will be held responsible for materials that they check out!
Hardback, paperback, audio books, may be checked out for two weeks. Materials may be renewed twice, unless it is already overdue or another patron is waiting for that book on reserve.
Reference Materials do not circulate! They may be read in the library, and information pertinent to a patron’s interest may be copied.
DVDs and videos may be borrowed for one week with one renewal allowed.
Materials that BFPL does not own may be obtained through inter-library loan from other libraries. Materials circulate for 2 weeks. They may be renewed with consent of the lending library.
There is a book return at BFPL's front door for dropping off books when the library is closed. Please do not place large bags of books in the return, as they get stuck.

All residents of Fayette County, as well as anyone with an Access PA card from another library, may apply for a free library card.
The library has approximately 19,000 items in our collection, including over 1600 DVDs and 20 magazines. We can usually obtain anything that we don't own with a week or two. There is a 10 item limit per patron.
Most material circulates for two weeks and is renewable for two additional weeks. DVDs circulate for one week with one renewal allowed.
